Born in Montreal, Canada, Roc Cayard is the offspring of a Haitian mother and a Haitian-Dominican father. After spending his childhood years in Haiti during the early 1980’s , he and his family moved to the United States during his early teenage years as a way to escape the violence, kidnappings and political uprisings on the often unstable Caribbean island. Fluent in French, Spanish, Creole and English, creating art has always served as an outlet for Cayard’s experiences. The turmoil reflected in early and mid-‘90’s rap music has also been a parallel for the aggression Cayard witnessed in life, one that ultimately provided a deterrent from the pressures of his environment. After graduating with dual bachelors degrees from a reputable University in New York , Roc embarked on a career as an independent filmmaker, producing several successful urban documentaries focused on New York’s underground hip-hop culture. In recent years, he’s honed his artistic skills as a painter, concentrating primarily on the topic of depression, a subject that is familiar ground to many. Roc Cayard resides in New York City.
